RE: gnome-pilot-list Digest, Vol 7, Issue 14

re: Sync problem with treo, could the problem be permissions ?

You said : "I have linked /dev/pilot to /dev/ttyUSB0 and did chmod 666 /dev/pilot."
However that change isn't permenant.
Look at the message in var/log/messages

"Nov 21 07:06:53 localhost 05-pam_console.dev[4466]: Restoring console
permissions for /dev/ttyUSB0"

If you look at the permissions now on /dev/ttyUSB0 I wonder if they are still 666 ?
UDEV could be putting them back to default.

Look in /etc/udev/permissions.d for a permissions file, probably called 50-udev.permissions

Under the section for serial/dialup devices change
ttyUSB*:root:uucp:0660
to
ttyUSB*:root:uucp:0666

If that doesn't work then it's probably worth testing your underlying connectivity to the device

Issue the following command and hit hotsync on your palm.
pilot-xfer -p /dev/ttyUSB0 -l

Folks,

I am running RHEL 4 Beta 2 and am trying to get my Treo 600 to synch
with Evolution. When I go through the gnome-pilot settings and hit the
synch button it just sits there and does nothing and finally times out.

I have linked /dev/pilot to /dev/ttyUSB0 and did chmod 666 /dev/pilot.

What am I missing here ??

Regards

Are you sure your Treo uses USB0? Did you try USB1?

I have tried linking /dev/pilot to USB1 as well. No luck. This is what I
get in /var/log/messages when I push the synch button on the Pilot.
