Annoying feature..........

Hi all........
My desktop computer is behaving like a laptop. After a certain time of
screensaver, the monitor is switched off. I switch on by pressing a key, and
then I can't access to internet until I reboot....
I tried to configure xscreensaver but I don't really know  if the problem is
here. I want to deactivate this annoying feature....please help....
