Who's in charge of that part of GNOME? Tell him/her that most new
people need this type of feedback. The more that it acts similar to the
other poplar GUI's the more that will lower the barriers to migration to
Linux from the other OSes. If developers ignore what people want, then
THEY limit inclusion. While splash screens may not be the best, if more
people understand splash screens while power user don't need them, then
make it configurable.

If I WANT this, why are you limiting what I WANT! Or for that matter,
why are you limiting what most people may want? Make the thing
configurable and you'll be happy if you can disable it. Which would you
rather have, more apps BECAUSE more people are using Linux, or the
current limitation of software in Mac like numbers? We need to grow
Linux and making some changes now will help grow our numbers. It may
even accelerate the rate of adoption of Linux!

For my commment, I say do it!!!
