Inability to run GNOME2 apps

I have all of the GNOME 2.0 development packages installed from the
Ximian channel, however, whenever I attempt to run a GNOME2 app I get
100's of messages from gnome_segv (like the the one below) the PID
changes for each message.

gnome_segv (pid:9332): GLib-GObject-WARNING **: invalid cast from (NULL)
pointer to `GdkWindow'

However, if I su to any other user, I am able to run the app just fine.
Logging in as root produces the exact same error....


Any ideas what could be causing this?
