I can't see how it could have worked then since gdm no longer reads the
gdm/Sessions dir in 2.4.4.x.  Read the session setup section in the gdm
manual on www.jirka.org/gdm.html .  It looks like you're using a gdm-2.4.1.x
like setup and that won't work with 2.4.4.x versions
