after gnome-vfs

Hi,
I needed to install file-roller which needed gnome-vfs 1.0.0 or higher, I 
installed gnome-vfs with "--prefix=/" in the configure line, but when i got 
to configure file roller with the same prefix, it returns an error that it 
can't find gnome-vfs = /

what can be wrong, or what else should i do to connect them together, sorry 
since I'm a newbie ...
