I had the same problem.  First, I symlinked all the gstreamer pc files in ~/garnome/lib/pkgconfig/ to simpler names - it seemed like monkey-media was looking for "gstreamer-libs.pc" instead of "gstreamer-libs-0.6.pc", for example.  I symlinked them all.

Then, I symlinked ~/garnome/lib/libgstcontrol-0.6.so to ~/garnome/lib/libgstcontrol.so, and it all worked fine.
