There have never been "emergency" funders, just slow corporate decision
making or procurement procedures that sometimes delivered commitments
close to GUADEC start.

Copenhagen produced a surplus that carried into the next year and
surplus funds from Kristiansand underwrote the gratis-to-all hackers
GNOME Summit at MIT last fall.
