Thanx for your valuable comments, i've try my best to implement them.

It would be great if the patch could be commited to be in the 2.14 release.

The patch is quite unintrusive as it's disabled by default at the 
'configure' level. And when it's disabled the compiled code is identical 
 to the code without the patch applyed.
