This is going to be fairly common.  Especially since, historically, the 
Sun release cycles are much longer than the GNOME cycle.  The two 
versions will often get out of sync.  Here at JHU we are waiting for the 
next Sun GNOME release before we open this can of worms.

Once 2.4 is released (with RH10?) we will have a mixed GNOME 2.2 (RH9) 
and 2.4 (RH10) environment with shared home directories and users 
switching back and forth.  Keywords=ABI/API stability,enterprise.
