gtk+ 2.0.6 and HP

I have been unsuccessful in getting gtk to build on an HP. It keeps
complaining about not being able to:

/usr/lib/dld.sl: Can't open shared library:
../../gdk-pixbuf/libpixbufloader-png.sl
/usr/lib/dld.sl: No such file or directory
/usr/lib/dld.sl: Invalid shared library file: ../../gdk-pixbuf/.libs/
/usr/lib/dld.sl: Is a directory
failed to load "./stock_add_16.png": Unable to load image-loading module:
../../
gdk-pixbuf/libpixbufloader-png.sl: Is a directory
make[2]: *** [gtkstockpixbufs.h] Error 1

I have built all of gnome as shared, and am still unsuccesfull.  Am I
missing something simple???

I am using gcc-3.0.4, on an HP 10.20 and HP11.0 machine.
