Pango 1.0.4 on RH 6.2

I am trying to compile Pango 1.0.4 on a RedHat 6.2 box with freetype 2.1.2.
I cannot get the libpangoft2 library to build.  Is their something I need to
enable in the ./configure?? Right now I am just setting the prefix and
exec-prefix. The configure script is finding the new version of freetype.
