OK, great.  You certainly don't need to build= Vala - you can simply install it like this:

1. Get the sources for libmpd:

<= div>$ cd libmpd
$ sudo apt-get build-dep libmpd

3. Get the sources for gmpc:

$ cd ..
$ git clone
git://repo.or.cz/gmpc.gi=

4. Build and install:

$ cd gmpc
$ sudo apt-get build-dep gmpc
$ sudo apt-ge= t install libglyr-dev   (another library I think you will need)

I think that will work.  If you run into trouble, let = us know again here and we'll try to help.  cheers -

You might not actually need to build the whole = world (including Vala) using jhbuild - it depends on what you want to do. &= nbsp;Which distribution (operating system) are you running, and which versi= on of it?  Which program(s) were you hoping to contribute to?

Ebru,

OK, great. =A0You certainly don't need to buil= d Vala - you can simply install it like this:

$ su= do apt-get install valac-0.20

In fact, you won'= ;t need to use jhbuild to build anything. =A0I just built gmpc on my system= (I'm running Ubuntu 13.10, by the way) to see what you need to do. =A0= It's pretty easy. =A0You'll need to build only two packages from so= urce: libmpd (which gmpc depends on) and gmpc itself. =A0Here we go:

1. Get the sources for libmpd:

$ git clone git://repo.or.cz/libmpd.git

2.= Build and install it:

$ cd libmpd
$ sud= o apt-get build-dep libmpd
$ ./autogen.sh
$ make
$ sudo make install

3. Get the sources for gmpc:

$ cd= ..

4. Build and install:

$ cd gmpc
$ sudo apt-get build-dep gmpc
$ sudo apt-get install libglyr-d= ev =A0 (another library I think you will need)
$ ./autogen.sh
$ make
$ sudo make install

I think = that will work. =A0If you run into trouble, let us know again here and we&#= 39;ll try to help. =A0cheers -

Ebru,

OK, great.  You certainly don't need to build= Vala - you can simply install it like this:

$ sud= o apt-get install valac-0.20

In fact, you won't ne= ed to use jhbuild to build anything.  I just built gmpc on my system (= I'm running Ubuntu 13.10, by the way) to see what you need to do.  It'= s pretty easy.  You'll need to build only two packages from source: li= bmpd (which gmpc depends on) and gmpc itself.  Here we go:

1. Get the sources for libmpd:

$ git clone git://repo.or.cz/libmpd.git

2.= Build and install it:

$ cd libmpd
$ sud= o apt-get build-dep libmpd
$ ./autogen.sh
$ make
$ sudo make install

3. Get the sources for gmpc:

$ cd= ..

4. Build and install:

$ cd gmpc
$ sudo apt-get build-dep gmpc
$ sudo apt-get install libglyr-d= ev   (another library I think you will need)
$ ./autogen.sh<= /div>
$ make
$ sudo make install

I think = that will work.  If you run into trouble, let us know again here and w= e'll try to help.  cheers -

Ebru,

OK, great.  You certainly don't need to build= Vala - you can simply install it like this:

$ sud= o apt-get install valac-0.20

$ git clone git://repo.or.cz/libmpd.git

2.= Build and install it:

$ cd libmpd
$ sudo apt-get build-dep libmpd
$ ./autogen.sh
$ make
$ sudo make install

3. Get the sources for gmpc:

$ cd= ..

4. Build and install:

$ cd gmpc
$ sudo apt-get build-dep gmpc
$ sudo apt-get install libglyr-d= ev   (another library I think you will need)
$ ./autogen.sh<= /div>
$ make
$ sudo make install

I think = that will work.  If you run into trouble, let us know again here and w= e'll try to help.  cheers -

that's great that you'd like to contribute to GNOM= E!

Ebru,

thanks for sending me a copy of Widgets/gmpc-progr= ess.c in a separate message. =A0That file is generate by the Vala compiler,= which translates Vala to C. =A0For some reason, on your machine the Vala c= ompiler is writing a funny Unicode character (an I with a dot over it) in o= ne place in the file, which makes the C compiler unhappy.

I wonder if your language setting is somehow affecting = the build (which would be a bug in the Vala compiler). =A0Now that you'= ve switched your language settings to English, could you try a new clean bu= ild like this? =A0Be warned that this will delete any changes you've ma= de in your gmpc directory.

ebru@ubuntu:~/workspace/gmpc$ git clean -fxd =A0 (go ba= ck to a clean tree)
ebru@ubuntu:~/workspace/gmpc$ ./autogen.sh

Does th= at help?

Ebru,

OK, great. =A0You certainly don't need to buil= d Vala - you can simply install it like this:

$ su= do apt-get install valac-0.20

$ git clone git://repo.or.cz/libmpd.git

2.= Build and install it:

$ cd libmpd
$ sudo apt-get build-dep libmpd
$ ./autogen.sh
$ make
$ sudo make install

3. Get the sources for gmpc:

$ cd= ..

4. Build and install:

$ cd gmpc
$ sudo apt-get build-dep gmpc
$ sudo apt-get install libglyr-d= ev =A0 (another library I think you will need)
$ ./autogen.sh
$ make
$ sudo make install

I think = that will work. =A0If you run into trouble, let us know again here and we&#= 39;ll try to help. =A0cheers -

Ebru,

thanks for sending me a copy of Widgets/gmpc-progr= ess.c in a separate message.  That file is generate by the Vala compil= er, which translates Vala to C.  For some reason, on your machine the = Vala compiler is writing a funny Unicode character (an I with a dot over it= ) in one place in the file, which makes the C compiler unhappy.

I wonder if your language setting is somehow affecting = the build (which would be a bug in the Vala compiler).  Now that you'v= e switched your language settings to English, could you try a new clean bui= ld like this?  Be warned that this will delete any changes you've made= in your gmpc directory.

ebru@ubuntu:~/workspace/gmpc$ ./autogen.sh=

Does= that help?

Ebru,

OK, great.  You certainly don't need to build= Vala - you can simply install it like this:

$ sud= o apt-get install valac-0.20

$ git clone git://repo.or.cz/libmpd.git

2.= Build and install it:

$ cd libmpd
$ sudo apt-get build-dep libmpd
$ ./autogen.sh
$ make
$ sudo make install

3. Get the sources for gmpc:

$ cd= ..

4. Build and install:

$ cd gmpc
$ sudo apt-get build-dep gmpc
$ sudo apt-get install libglyr-d= ev   (another library I think you will need)
$ ./autogen.sh<= /div>
$ make
$ sudo make install

I think = that will work.  If you run into trouble, let us know again here and w= e'll try to help.  cheers -

I'm writing a desktop app which stores data as RDF, and I want to give URIs to all RDF resources. For the resources the application defines, I assume a good choice is to use a URL, but that's pointless because I don't have any website to point to. And still, I need some format. I can make my own, but before that I'd like to know if Gnome has any guidelines for consistency. For user-defined resources, I can't use a URI which reveals any information, because some of the user data is private. So I decided to use UUIDs, but there are two UUID libraries (one used by Linux and the other provided by OSSP, with C++ binding) and 5 versions of UUID. So again, I'd like to know if there are any guidelines. By the way, if there was at least a tutorial, it would make all these decisions much easier. I'll gladly write one, after I learn more :) Thanks in advance, Anatoly
