I have two files: a.gnumeric b.gnumeric residing in the same directory. I have some references from a to b, and from b to a (but not cyclic). I use the following syntax =[a.gnumeric]sheet!A1:B2 the referencing and recalculating works as long as I have both workbooks open simultanously. Then I save both, and close gnumeric (entirely but gracefully). On reopening of any of the files (or even if both are given as command line params to the same isntance of gnumeric on startup) the references between workbooks are broken. During loading I get errors like the following, seemingly for each cross-ref cell: ** (gnumeric:23117): WARNING **: Unparsable expression for D26: =[A.gnumeric]ass!M16 ** (gnumeric:23117): WARNING **: XML-IO : Shared expression with no expression ?? and the cross-refs are turned into text fields (quoted fields). Needless to say this means that working with cross-references is impossible in gnumeric (only works until first quit). Is that really correct? Or is my gnumeric version broken ? Or is there something I do wrongly ? I use gnumeric 1.10.15 on Arch Linux with Gnome 3. Is that really=20 > correct? >=20 This is a known bug. If you had only references from a to b you could open the refered file first and then the referring file and things would work. Essentially at te time you open a file the workbook referred to must also be open. I know, that makes cross file references nearly useless. (There are alss other problems but you may not have encountered them since both of your files are in the same directory.) My first Python function for gnumeric works, so far so good. But I cannot make any docstring show up in the GUI. I've tried 1st the '@... method (it does not work in case of the functions defined in the py-func module included in the gnumeric distribution, too!!), 2nd a docstring between triple singe or double quotes, resp., and 3rd a self-defined global tuple named according to the variables I found in some C plugin functions (in case of C functions, all the docstrings show up in the GUI!) ... What am I doing wrong or is there a flaw in the Python plugin? Can somebody please help? Should I post some code? My plan is to make numpy's/scipy's multiple-precision capabilities available to gnumeric using the python plugin. Does anybody think that is nonsense? But where light is there is also some shadow! With shadow I mean the visual appearance of the input fields inside the 'Preferences' dialog. Dear Gnumeric developers can you please explain to me why the text in front of the input fields is aligned at the top of each field while in all other Gnumeric dialogs the text is aligned at the center (which looks much more naturally to me)? I know, it has no influence on functionality, but it would be great if this discrepancy could be corrected in a future release. Problem with upd= ating cells that are referenced in other sheets

Gnumeric version 1.1= 0.16
Windows 7 SP1 64-bit

I have two sheets in one Gnumeric workb= ook.  One sheet, "Numbers", contains a series of number

groups= .  Each number group has six two-digit numbers.  Each two-digit n= umber is in one cell.

There is one number group on one row.&n= bsp; There are several hundred number groups, therefore, there

are = several hundred rows.

Each two-digit number in each number gr= oup of six numbers is in a column.  The first two-digit

number= in a number group is in the first column.  The second two-digit numbe= r in a number group

is in the second column, etc.

The goal i= s to determine the frequency of instances of a particular number in a given column.

For example, how often does the number 01 occu= r in the first column of numbers?  This answer is

then referen= ced to second sheet, "Numbers_Frequencies".

An example of the formul= a that is used for this action is as follows:
"=3DCOUNTIF('Number= s'!$B:$B, 01+'Numbers_Frequencies'!C6)".

The COUNTIF function for th= e above formula is to count the number of instances of the number 01
in column B on Sheet "Numbers" and reference it to cell C6 on Sheet "Numb= ers_Frequencies".

There are 326 variations of the above COUNTIF form= ula.  They calculate all of the instances of

all of the number= s in a given range of numbers for all of the number groups in one sheet, an= d

then reference them to a second sheet.

After entering all = of the formulas, I was able to undate all of the instances of the given
numbers that were already in the Numbers Sheet to the appropriate reference cells in the

Numbers-Frequencies Sheet, but when I added= a new row of numbers, the instances did not update

properly. = In fact, most, if not all, of the frequency values were changed, and incor= rectly.  In

other words, I had a major screw up.
Fortunately, I had a back up of the original workbook.  I attempted t= o update with a new row of

numbers again, but the same thing occurr= ed.  So, I have a problem.  Gnumeric does not seem to do

= what it is supposed to do.

What could be the problem?  Is there= a bug in Gnumeric 1.10.16 that prevents the accurate

updating of v= alues between sheets?

Thanks for the help.

The line in error is in a header file: GtkWidget* gtk_color_selection_dialog_get_color_selection (GtkColorSelectionDialog *colorsel); goffice/gtk/go-gtk-compat.h has this in: #ifndef HAVE_GTK_COLOR_SELECTION_DIALOG_GET_COLOR_SELECTION # define gtk_color_selection_dialog_get_color_selection(w) (w)->colorsel #endif that would cause intense confusion if the substitution was made in a header. Bonjour Jean and thanks for your help,

In= goffice 0.8.17 there is no gog-error-bars.h, may be gog-error-bar =A0.h?
<goffice/gtk/go-gtk-compat.h> is never included in .= h files.

I had to patch:
-=A0gog-error-b= ar.c
- go-combo-box.c
- go-action-com-color.c
- go-action-combo-pimaps.c=A0
- go-action-combo-stack.c
=
- go-color-selector.c=A0
to move #include <goffice/gtk/go= -gtk-compat.h> after the other includes.

That s= olves my compilation errors under mingw.=A0

Could you patch this in goffice git master branch?

Can I compile goffice git master with gtk2? or do I ne= ed gtk3?

Regards.

John, good catch, this is certainly the issue. I thought this has been
fixed a while ago, but seems it is not the case. In gog-error-bars.h the line

#include <goffice/gtk/go-gtk-compat.h>

must be moved after the other includes, and things should work.

Apologies,
Jean

I'm using version 1.10.17 under Debian Testing. When I right click on a spreadsheet cell I get the normal cut / copy / paste etc menu. If I then select copy with a left click, the cell borders briefly flash the chequered highlighting and then return to normal. Paste then yields nothing. If I then return to the cell and left click select copy a second time all functions properly and paste is correctly available. Using the copy button on the toolbar gives the same behaviour. Andreas, Thanks. Closed Parcellite clipboard manager and the problem seems to have gone away. Will do some testing but hopefully that is the end of it. Chris Dunn
Gnumeric always starts with A1 notation (even= files originally saved e.g. with LibreOffice Calc as R1C1).
It's also n= ecessary to toggle each sheet individually.

Feature request:
A Pr= eferences settings to make R1C1 the default format.

Reasoning:
A1= is by far the most popular format but R1C1, which mimics matrix notation, = is more readable for scientific work.
Usually, one uses either one or th= e other notation.
As of now, those who prefer R1C1 must change manually,= sheet by sheet (Format > Sheet >= Use R1C1 notation) when a file is opened .
