Hello,

=0D

please, bear with me, I just want solicit some possible h= elp for me and=0D other "insightless" users that are after spending minimal effort with=0D mere running flatpacks and keeping them updated if possible.

=0D

Apparently, decommissioning sdk.g.o caused some disruptio= ns to this=0D group of users, see e.g.=0D https://www.reddit.com/r/gnome/comments/dut47k/what_happened_= to_sdkgnomeorg_flatpak_repos/

=0D

I am talking about this:

=0D
$ flatpak --user update=0D
Looking for updates=
230;=0D
F: Error updating remo=
te metadata for 'gnome': While fetching http://sdk.gnome.org/repo/summary=
.sig: [6] Couldn't resolve host name=0D
[...]=0D

I prefer to control everything flatpak just user-wide (--user),

=0D

I first installed the flatpak of interest years (could be= 2+) ago,=0D and since then, I was done keeping it all up-to-date with the above=0D command.

=0D

Sure, I could inspect everything in detail an re-learn ev= erything I had=0D a better knowledge of originally, but I thought that you, experts in the=0D= area, could perhaps provide me with sequence of commands that would:

=0D=
    =0D
  • =0D

    get rid of of the original tracking of org.gnome.Platform (application= ID)=0D from gnome (origin), which apparently points to sdk.g.o now

    =0D
  • =0D
  • =0D

    readd the same using the URL that's valid nowadays (which one? how do=0D= I get to know easily?), so as to be able to update correctly

    =0D
  • =0D
=0D

Is this all doable using flatpak --user only= ?=0D It would really save me some hassles, rather than translating the above=0D= piece of advice to the actual commands by myself :)

=0D

All this information vital for a smooth continuity might = deserve a wider=0D dissemination ... i'd even suggest putting this sdk subdomain back merely= =0D to display a guidance like that for other surprised users.

=0D

Thanks for considering.

=0D Mathieu Bridon=0D commented on a=0D discussion:=0D

=0D
=0D

The error you provide means this happens with the (extrem= ely) old gnome stable repo, not the old nightly repo.

=0D

There were 2 things hosted at sdk.gnome.org:

=0D
    =0D
  • a gnome repo with stable apps
  • =0D
  • a gnome-nightly repo with development versions of apps
  • =0D
=0D

The former has been decommissioned for years, as everythi= ng moved to Flathub. If you were still using it recently then you were us= ing ancient versions of apps, most likely with tons of bugs and security = issues which had been long since fixed.

=0D

The latter is the one decommissioned recently, and is wha= t is discussed in this ticket.

=0D

However, even though the former had been unmaintained and= shouldn't have been used for a long time, we had never redirected users = to Flathub, because Flatpak didn't have that redirection functionality at= the time.

=0D

We had also never removed it, which explains why you coul= d continue using it without realizing you shouldn't have.

=0D

Now that the gnome-nightly repo is also gone, we removed = the whole sdk.gnome.org domain, which is why you're now seeing this failu= re.

=0D

To sum it up, move to Flathub. Something like this (untes= ted, from memory) should do the trick:

=0D
    =0D
  1. =0D

    enable Flathub:

    =0D
    $ flatpak remote-add --if-not-exists flathub https://flathub.org/rep=
    o/flathub.flatpakrepo
    =0D
  2. =0D
  3. =0D

    find the list of apps you had installed from the gnome repo:

    =0D
    $ flatpak list --columns=3Dapplication,origin | grep -P '\tgnome'
    =0D
  4. =0D
  5. =0D

    reinstall these apps from Flathub:

    =0D
    $ flatpak install flathub ${APP_ID} ${APP_ID} …<=
    /pre>=0D

  6. =0D
