Dear,

I’m working with DIA since a couple of days and = it’s great. However I have 2 questions:

Is it possible to make a personnal = library of .png?

Second is to know if I can easily make different arrows as = those provide in the app.

1. The png library should be really = helpful instead of charging each time a picture from a dedicated file. = So I can have for a brand of product I want to connect a dedicated = library.

2. Because we are using a lot of different connectors in my = company I would like to draw it. Not extraordinary and accurate file, = but instead of a round or an arrow, I would like 2 round or an arrow = with 4 legs…

Thanks for your answer.

Kindest = regards

Dear,

I’m working with DIA since a c= ouple of days and it’s great. However I have 2 questions:

Is it possible to make a personnal library of .png?

You mean for inserting= as pictures?  Of course you can curate whatever you like - so I am pr= obably misunderstanding the question.

Second is to know if I can easily mak= e different arrows as those provide in the app.

I have often wondered this myself, I hope the answer is= yes, and that instructions follow.

1. The png library should be really helpful instead of char= ging each time a picture from a dedicated file. So I can have for a brand o= f product I want to connect a dedicated library.

OK, that IS what you want. &nb= sp;You can just use your OS file system for this.
I did not know this was possible, but I just dragged a .jpg, ,= svg, .png, and .bmp into Dia  from a windows file folder onto a Dia ca= nvas and they all worked.  You have to ungroup the .svg to edit the en= tities therein.

2. Because we are using a lot of diff= erent connectors in my company I would like to draw it. Not extraordinary a= nd accurate file, but instead of a round or an arrow, I would like 2 round = or an arrow with 4 legs…

I am wondering if using Python to develop the appropriate add-ins if it would be feasible to accomplish this or perhaps some elements. Without going to into excessive detail, could someone comment on the feasibility of implementing features such as the following: 1. Restrict access to certain file operations (e.g., save as, export) 2. Restrict opening an existing file (they have to start with a blank sheet) 3. Possibly restrict the copy and paste functionality. 4. Control the save function to save within a particular location unknown to the user. 5. Add a menu item or button to submit an assignment 6. Export the saved (submitted) item to another application for uploading. I am obviously not a python programmer or perhaps I might understand if this is even possible. However, I did recently design a system and paid a programmer to implement most of these features using Visio and AutoIT. However, the design is far from elegant and some things are difficult to control without creating a lot of overhead which slows the system down. I also realize that this is a solution to curtail the minor few who are interested in trying to share test answers/solutions to others or somehow come up with a way to skirt around certain requirements. Still, it is an interesting puzzle and has been fun trying to come up with a solution. Thank you for your comments and feedback! So the first hint is to be more precise with the error description: "diagram tree is not showing" could be: a) the diagram tree window does not show? No idea if that's your issue. b) the diagram tree window is too small to show something Just resize it, I think the default sizing is broken by the above mentioned "improvement". c) the diagram tree window is empty Just load the diagram after opening the diagram tree window. d) the diagram tree windwow only shows the diagram entry Again probably a Dia bug. IIRC the old diagram tree window needs to be active to get populated with elements correctly. e) something completely different If so, than what? I agree with Andrey, you are probably using the wrong tool for the job: I suppose what you need is Inkscape, a vector graphics program: you can slice the svg and make a web page out of it, or animate the SVG directly (Inkscape doesn't support that directly). A bit of Javascript would do what you need. Also, consider Synfig as a tool for animations. Dima. If there's more to the response, I do not have it. Replying to Dima's message in reverse order, Synfig is definitely not the tool I need. That is not the type of "animation" I'm looking for. I'm creating an organizational chart structure of information. If I choose to, I want to be able to click on an object, in this case a rectangle, and have another box, or window, open somewhere that gives me additional information about the data in the rectangle. The information the box/window will be the same type of information you would get from a footnote, endnote, or bibliography. It will simply tell me where I got the information from. -- ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Ken Springer "All progress depends upon the unreasonable person." Either you picked a wrong tool for the job, or you should rethink your
expectations and adapt to the desired result with the tool on hand in mind.=
I agree with Andrey, you are probably using the wrong tool for the job:
I suppose what you need is Inkscape, a vector graphics program: you can
slice the svg and make a web page out of it, or animate the SVG directly (Inkscape doesn't support that directly). A bit of Javascript would do<= br> what you need.
Also, consider Synfig as a tool for animations.

Dima.

I do not know why, but I never received Andrey's reply. =C2=A0If there&= #39;s more to the response, I do not have it.

Replying to Dima's message in reverse order, Synfig is definitely not t= he tool I need. =C2=A0That is not the type of "animation" I'm= looking for.

I'm creating an organizational chart structure of information. =C2=A0If= I choose to, I want to be able to click on an object, in this case a recta= ngle, and have another box, or window, open somewhere that gives me additio= nal information about the data in the rectangle. =C2=A0The information the = box/window will be the same type of information you would get from a footno= te, endnote, or bibliography. =C2=A0It will simply tell me where I got the = information from.

I'm aware Dia is not a spreadsheet program. :-) The first spreadsheet I ever used was VisiCalc, on an Atari 800 computer. A friend and I used it to put together "numbers" for a loan application. It was approved, but we chose not to follow through. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Visicalc Dia is a charting/diagramming program, like Smartdraw, but not as complex or versatile. http://www.smartdraw.com/ All I want to do is a simple organizational chart, similar to this. http://www.smartdraw.com/examples/view/city+organization+chart/ or http://www.smartdraw.com/articles/org-chart/what-is-org-chart.htm. I think Smartdraw is up to version 12, 13, something like that. I own vers. 6 and 9. I do not know if Smartdraw will do this. And it's far cheaper than Visio, but still more than I want to spend. I would like to have a "marker" in each box that would open up a box like a spread sheet. https://www.dropbox.com/sh/fe0lbsfbmzpmnkj/JLD9Ynmk4n 1.jpg is a cell with a comment attached. There's a small red triangle in the upper right corner of the cell. If this is the active cell, and the comment is being created or has been opened, in this particular spreadsheet program you see a popup box with text and a leader line to the cell it's associated with as shown in 2.jpg. If the cell is not active, and you hover the mouse over the cell, the popup box appears as in 3. jpg. This is all I'm looking for, and hoping Dia can do. The problem with using the layer idea is, I think, it would show all the popup boxes at one time. I only wish to have one at a time appear, when needed. > >> Replying to Dima's message in reverse order, Synfig is definitely not >> the tool I need. If Dia won't do it, that's fine. That doesn't make Dia a bad tool. It just doesn't meet my needs. :-) I'm not one to change my goals to fit the tools I have, I get the tools to fit my goals, if they exist. > > > -- > WBR, > Andrey Repin (anrdaemon@freemail.ru) 21.04.2014, <22:22> > > Sorry for my terrible english...
