I am not 100% sure. I have the very same extrem slowdown of shotwell
when importing either from iPhone or from the laptop-builtin sd-card
reader. Copying the files from these devices to the hard drive works
liek a breeze.

So it seems that something *is* wrong in the import.

Finding time I will try to debug it.
