[Shotwell] deleting photos : confusion + gimp integration

Hi,
Ive been using shotwell quite a lot the past week or so. A nice solid
alternative.
Could someone explain in detail the delete photo and subsequent "empty
waste basket" operation. This isn't overly clear:
"This will remove the photo from your Shotwell library. Would you also
like to move the file to your desktop wastebasket?"
WHat does "Library" mean in this case? Since when I do this the photos are
still there in the directory imported from - I just dont see them. If I put
something in the shotwell wastebasket I shouldnt be seeing it in the
library directory imo since its reimported at a later date - I frequently
seem to end up with duplicates!
And for some reason when I say "move" it takes an *age*. Can it really take
almost a minute to delete 50 photos?
In addition, is there any ongoing integration of Gimp? If I can see a jpg
and there is a correspondingly named xcf in the same directory I would like
to be prompted to open the xcf file with Gimp : tighter integration of the
two would be great since shotwell is easily the easiest to user file
viewer. Ideally of course shotwell would show a preview of xcf files
clearly marked next to the jpg pr png.
thanks for your patience.
