Yes, indeed Shotwell could do this. In fact, we on the dev team want
Shotwell to do this. This is but one of several outstanding RAW
annoyances in Shotwell that make the program tough to use for pro and
semi-pro photographers. For what it's worth, we hope to fix most of
these issues for the next release of Shotwell, 0.13, due out in the
next few months.
