Replacing:

MOZILLA_PLUGINDIR="${MOZILLA_PLUGINDIR:="\${libdir}/mozilla/plugins"}"

.by

MOZILLA_PLUGINDIR="/usr/local/firefox-official/plugins"

..in the configure script fixes my problem, but obviously not a global fix
