In the end I created [Vncdesk][1], for scaling apps. The idea is to have
one app per VNC desktop and to start it conveniently with just one
command, e.g.:

    $ vncdesk 2

The next step could be to investigate scaling an application
window-by-window using `x11vnc -appshare`.
