Well I did get it to work with some juggling.  After building the latest firefox from source, 
I got errors when trying to build the Perl module..... couldn't load libs that were in
/usr/lib/xulrunner-1.9.

I had to symlink the following to /usr/lib 

libsmime3.so
libssl3.so
libnss3.so
libnssutiL3.so
libsoftokn3.so

Now it's working. Pretty cool.
