A 3.2 extension gives no error when an attempt is made to load it on a computer running Gnome Shell 3.4. I received the following automated msesage: ========= Your extension, "Active Notifications Indicator" has received an error report from jpangburn: What's wrong? Won't install. What have you tried? When I set it to "ON" it asks me if I want to download and I say yes. When I then go to "Installed extensions" to view it and configure, all my other extensions show up but this one does not. Returning to the Active Notifications Indicator page has the status set back to OFF. I've googled around a bit but can't find out how to debug this, where I might find a log file, etc. I have about 15 other extensions installed ok so I think I'm going about the installation process correctly. Name of the class is probably the string [namespace][classname], i.e. without the '.' in between. There is a macro G_TYPE_FROM_CLASS and G_TYPE_FROM_INSTANCE that (to me) seems more useful than type_from_name - something like `GObject.type_from_instance(global.window_manager)` - but as far as I can tell they aren't in the introspection interface. At the moment I drive the animation by using Mainloop.timeout_add(delay_between_frames, Lang.bind(this, this.frame)) where this.frame is the code that advances all the toons one step. I notice that this is sometimes laggy (I can't really reproduce it though) - the type where you move your cursor across the screen and can see it pausing every frame before it continues on. Should I use a Clutter.Timeline for this instead? I like Mainloop.timeout_add because it allows me to specify the time between frames and suits a frame-driven animation, whereas a Clutter.Timeline seems more suited to an animation where you just want it to transition from state A to state B in x milliseconds, however many frames happen to fit in that. Continuing on from that, is there some tool by which I can profile GJS code? The Gnome3 header and footer panels are both spanning across both monitors such that the clock is split between the monitors, and half of the new media notifications are hidden in the dead zone of one of the monitors so I can't read the options. Goal: I would love to have the top panel and bottom notification area show up on _only_ the left monitor with the right monitor reserved as just an extra space for windows to live. indeed that is the expected behaviour, with what you are seeing, either xinerama is disabled for some reason or otherwise its a bug....

I think the panel should be on only one output by default. And in the Displays settings, you should be able to drag and drop the panel to the output you like. If that doesn't work for you, then it might be possible that you don't have the XRandR X11 extension on your system. I'm not sure, but it may be possible that you also need to have the Xinerama extension... The function this._frame sees this flag and tells every toon to start playing their "terminate" animation (imaging pressing "stop" and then every toon says "oh no!" and explodes). Only once every toon has finished terminating does this._frame call this.actuallyStop(), which in turn does Clutter.thread_remove_repaint_func to stop the animation. This is fine, *except* that if there is an error thrown in this._frame, all the toons freeze in their current position (because this._frame can't be run any more). However, toggling to 'off' will not remove all the toons from the screen, because it only calls this.initiateStopSequence() rather than this.actuallyStop(). Then the user is stuck with all these toons on their screen that they can't remove. Before this happened I ran a system update but the only changes were some pearl packages, shouldn't affect gnome. Anyway, now it refuses to run, leaving me in an empty screen with my background but surprisingly, with my keyboard shortcuts working. I used them to run a terminal and tried 'gnome-shell --replace' with the following results: (gnome-shell:1425): GLib-GIO-ERROR **: Settings schema 'org.gnome.shell' does not contain a key named 'enabled-extensions' Trace/breakpoint trap While I can see org.gnome.shell.enabled-extensions with dconf-editor, I can't with 'gsettings list-keys'. I tried running with a fresh profile (new user) but the results are the same. I am running Archlinux, fully upgraded, gnome-shell 3.4.1. I also tried downgrading the updated packages, just in case, with no luck. Any ideas on how I should troubleshoot this? In fact it is. I opened the package for gnome-shell and after installation "glib-compile-schemas /usr/share/glib-2.0/schemas/" is executed. I tried re-installing gnome-shell and running the command manually (both with and without --allow-any-name) but gnome shell still doesn't work. I assume D-Bus is working normally since there are no issues with other stuff using dbus. I checked the logs too, nothing out of ordinary.

I think it's working. Running 'dconf list /org/gnome/' returns this:

gedit/
gnome-panel/

nautilus/
rhythmbox/
settings-daemon/

Shell isn't there though, running 'dconf list /org/gnome/shell' returns nothing.

I've been following the instructions on the GNOME page for translation extensions[0] so far. However, the strings I want translated are 'Minimize', 'Maximize', 'Close', etc -- the very same strings that are in the popup menu when you right-click a window's system title bar. These surely have translations already somewhere on the system, being such common strings. Is there some way I can make my extension use these pre-existing translations, wherever they are? Or somehow copy the .po files? (I'm very new to the whole gettext/translations things - still making sense of it). Since the probability is high that translations exist for these strings already I want to avoid having to re-translate them. On a related note, is there some way I can test that my translations worked in say looking glass? Or to see what translated strings are availabled for a particular gettext domain? Can I do something like _("Minimize", "de") to see what "Minimize" looks like when translated to German? Or gettext.listDomains() to see a list of domains and perhaps what translatable strings are available in each? (Sorry if this is entirely not how translations work, as I said, I'm clueless at the moment). cheers! I'd say these numbers aren't too bad - the one that really counts ( "RSS" - resident ) is pretty low. But it does seem like gnome-shell's virtual footprint grows considerably; mostly this look to be memory allocated for data [ "VmData" ]. =20 Note that I have several extensions enabled which may drive up the numbers. What about in the JS console in Firefox. Laurent who is packaging the Shell in Debian would like to have a release so he can easily integrate all these fixes. I'll also like having them in Fedora 17, so could we have a 3.4.x release please?
