Even worst this time, still with git master, I have been running on
battery for more than half an hour, and the gpm status icon still shows
a fully charged *online* battery.

According to thi output, my laptop is neither online, nor on battery.

After restarting upowerd, the output is correct and gpm updates
immediately.
I hence guess this bug should be reassigned to upower?

I have upower 0.9.1 installed and running.
