Not all devices have working hibernation; most have working shutdown...

This is a very nice idea, but with some caveats:
1.) This needs to be visualised very clearly; possibly with a modal
dialog or similar, to make sure the user doesn't start working on
something else that suddenly goes boom when the device shuts down
2.) How do you determine what constitutes an idle machine? After all,
there are always a lot of processes running... Applets, daemons, etc.
3.) Isn't this something that would fit better in gnome-schedule?
