I run a dual head on a 22in Acer on a D600 laptop (ATI Radeon 9000)
firstly, totem doesn't do that by default "yet" and I don't really wish
for that kind of functionality as there are times when the 22in is used
for watching a movie (kids/wife etc) and I'm sitting beside it tapping
away on the keyboard.
It's a nice functionality no less and I can appreciate why it's needed.
(right now, I'm using a tool called radeontool to shut down the
backlight - radeontool light off)
which works and then turning on the light again when the movie stops.
