Re: [gpm] debugging pm-utils/g-p-m from utopia updates?

Like magic!

On this new Dell Latitude D820, the yum update ran, and I restarted
the laptop, and now suspend to ram works again. No special
arrangement is needed for usb or ipw3945 functionality. The wireless
even reassociates with the router without any fuss. Quite
unbelievably great.

Just to be clear, these are the ones that work well

The kernel is
$ uname -r
2.6.16-1.2111_FC5smp

The only problem I have is that sound does not work after wake up.
This laptop has an Intel builtin sound device, Intel Corporation
82801G (ICH7 Family) High Definition Audio Controller (rev 01). I
don't want any readers to be misled by this: the sound does not work
using the standard FC5 kernel and alsa-utils, alsa-lib packages.
However, installing the release versions of alsa-lib and alsa-utils
and rebuilding the kernel module does make it work. I found
instructions for this in the redhat bugzilla.

What to do about suspend & resume with sound? I could use advice about
whether this problem will be magically solved by the kernel/hal
programers, or if I should do something about it.

$ /sbin/lsmod | grep snd

snd_seq_device         12172  3 snd_seq_dummy,snd_seq_oss,snd_seq
snd_pcm_oss            40736  0

snd_pcm                80516  3 snd_hda_intel,snd_hda_codec,snd_pcm_oss
snd_timer              25860  2 snd_seq,snd_pcm
snd                    54756  12
snd_hda_intel,snd_hda_codec,snd_seq_dummy,snd_seq_oss,snd_seq,snd_seq_device,snd_pcm_oss,snd_mixer_oss,snd_pcm,snd_timer
soundcore              13345  2 snd
snd_page_alloc         13960  2 snd_hda_intel,snd_pcm

It is difficult to unload all of these in the right order.

I've uploaded today's CVS version of everything -- you might want to
update now. Hope that helps.

Richard.
