If people use the file you attached here directly on there debian system, their
hal will break (Hint, we run as user hal, not haldaemon)

pam_console has various issues, so debian doesn't use it. We will start using
pam_foreground to give the same experience though (and it doesn't have issues).

I've got some reports that the battery applet also doesn't work okay on acpi
system with the latest HAL. Could be the same problems.

Would be nice if you guys could look at the package we're working on and give
comments or even help out with it :)
