Re: Outreachy sponsorship for December internships

Hi Marina,

I'm pleased to let you know that the board have approved three
internships for this round. Let me know if you need anything else!

Outreachy's deadline for community sign-ups for the December-
March internships round is September 5. You approved funding for 3
interns for the May round, but we didn't end up accepting anyone
for Outreachy (we accepted one person who applied for both programs
via GSoC). Would you be able to make the same funds for 3 interns
available for the December round? If so, I will go ahead and set up
GNOME's participation in Outreachy and make a call for projects.

We'll make a decision on this at our next board meeting, which is
Monday 2nd September. Can you confirm the amount for each
internship?
It might also be helpful to know what the schedule of payments is,
if
that's not too much trouble.

Thank you! The amount per internship is $6,500. Because Software
Freedom Conservancy administers the internships, there only needs to
be one payment from the GNOME Foundation to Conservancy covering all
the stipends, and then Conservancy sends payments to the interns.
GNOME Foundation can send a payment to Conservancy any time in 2019
or in January-February 2020. December 3, 2019 is when the internships
begin - so that's when it will be known how many interns GNOME will
have, but if it makes sense for the GNOME Foundation to send the
money earlier in 2019, anything that is not used for the December
2019 round can be used for a future round. Please let me know when
you would want Conservancy to send an invoice to the GNOME Foundation
to initiate the payment.

Btw, I'm happy to note that, on a quick review of the schedule,
it looks like three Outreachy alums are speaking at GUADEC this
year: Meg Ford, Renata Gegaj, and Clarissa Lima Borges.

Yes! I was thrilled about this! Sadly I missed Meg's talk, but
Renata
and Clarissa's were both great.

That's so great to hear!

Best wishes,

Allan

Best,
Marina
