Dear Mr. McGovern,

Please find below the September 2018 edition of the ICCA association digital newsletter.

Ending food waste at your meetings, is this possible? Please help us to find out!

More food reaches landfills and incinerators than any other single material in our everyday trash! Hunger is the world’s number one health risk, about one third of food for human consumption is lost or wasted globally each year as well as within the congress and events industry. This is the reason that ICCA has decided to establish a working group which will:

  • Identify needs and priorities with relevant stakeholders/communities, support the

  • development of zero food waste activities within the congress and convention industry

  • Encourage European and other international institutions to fight food waste especially those resulting at events (congresses, conventions, conference etc.)

  • Support ICCA members in their efforts and innovations to save and redistribute food to people in need.

  • Highlight the benefits of reducing food waste, feeding people in need, reduce methane emissions that come from landfills etc.

To help us establish the status in this field ICCA has conducted a survey among its venue members and we are now seeking the assistance of associations. We are calling all associations to complete a short survey to help us understand where this issue stands on the agenda of associations worldwide. If you have any comments and suggestions after completing the survey please email them to Ronaldo Cardano (Ronaldo C iccaworld org) at ICCA. Complete survey here
