Hmm, it could also be related to these two bugs,

I plan to look at this issue and the other inotify+gamin issues once my
exams are completed.

Christopher has run out of complaints, and has been quiet for the last
few releases. But please, make some noise on lkml. Linus is a big push
over if he sees that people want it.
