I don't use FreeBSD but subject to anything Matthias has to say, you should be OK with those: there seem to be FreeBSD ports available for all of them. To avoid confusion it would be wise not to say that ekiga-5.0 requires gnome-3, because if those are the dependencies then it doesn't. You would do better describing it as a GTK+-3 application. gnome-3 is already semi-incompatible with some linux distributions (you have to work hard to get to run with slackware for example, although I do have gnome-3.10 running on slackware-14.1), and it will become incompatible with more of them as it moves to a hard dependency on systemd. The only distributions you can be sure will support the full gnome stack into the future are fedora and arch. If eventually it requires a proxy for the audio and video streams, then we will setup one, and see what it asks in terms of bandwidth. If it requires too much bandwidth, we could open up a special type of Ekiga.net account with that kind of service. I don't know yet. It is my understanding that PC-BSD 10, which is, I understand, based on FreeBSD 10, includes GNOME 3, in line with FreeBSD 10; both of which are apparently now at release candidate 3 stage. I am waiting for PC-BSD 10, as I believe that it will be UEFI/GPT compatible, and so be able to run on computers that have the dreaded MS Windows 8 installed. Regarding GNOME 3, due to perceived problems with that, relative to GNOME 2, which I have been running for a number of years (I am currently running Debian 6 with GNOME 2), I had been advised to abandon using GNOME and instead, install and use XFCE, which is supposed to be like GNOME 2. How much this overcomes perceived problems, I do not know, but I expect that, should Ekiga be compatible with XFCE, it should be able to run with the later (than what I am using) versions of Debian, and, with PC-BSD 10 and FreeBSD 10, providing each of them runs XFCE, apart from being expected to be able to run with the GNOME 3 that can run within (or, on top of) PC-BSD 10 and FreeBSD 10. Whether Ekiga could run with PC-BSD 10, is perhaps, something for the Ekiga developers to discuss with Kris Moore of the PC-BSD development team. I, like Greg Hunt, as previously mentioned on this list, some time ago, had been unable to get Ekiga working on our systems, due to the version of Ekiga that was available as an installable package for the versions of Linux that we had been using, and, I have had to instead use Skype, as the only available, working videophone software that would work with Debian 6, as a package for Debian 6. -- Bret Busby Armadale West Australia .............. I am running 13.10 gnome 3 with dual soundcards-but the soundcard selection makes no difference. The same hardware runs skype and google voice, but I really want to get away from them both if possible. The software says its ver 4.0.1. I'd be glad to post a -d4 output, but I don't know what it is. I found it in the ekiga man file, and started ekiga from the terminal with an 'ekiga -d4', not sure where to find the log file with the debugging output in it. I'll poke around and post it if I can find out where to get the file from. Thanks so much for replying, I appreciate it very much. I do not know why the original installation (asus mobo desktop running xubuntu 13.10) put out a single line -d 4 file though and why it refused to allow my registration. I needed a new ubuntu installation anyway, so I installed ubuntu in another partition (this time in xubuntu 12.04). Within 2 minutes of downloading ekiga, I had it running without errors on the new partition. I also installed it in my Dell laptop (Dell 15 Inspiron, xubuntu 12.04), and it fired up and ran without difficulty. I didn't do anything different, and the reason why the first install attempt failed is a mystery. I've stopped using skype now, which gives me great joy. Ekiga restored by copy contents of saved backup file to C:\Documents and > Settings\Admin\Application Data\ekiga.conf Ok. Ekiga uses now gsettings to store configuration settings. Hope gsettings does not have this problem. -- Eugen From Eugen.Dedu at pu-pm.univ-fcomte.fr Tue Jan 28 16:42:09 2014 From: Eugen.Dedu at pu-pm.univ-fcomte.fr (Eugen Dedu) Date: Tue, 28 Jan 2014 17:42:09 +0100 Subject: [Ekiga-list] segmentation faults and "Remote host is offline" In-Reply-To: <51964465.80207@member.fsf.org> References: <20130512184623.GA23350@a> <51913D48.2000209@pu-pm.univ-fcomte.fr> <51964465.80207@member.fsf.org> Message-ID: <52E7DDE1.5090808@pu-pm.univ-fcomte.fr> On 17/05/13 16:53, fred k wrote: > ekiga 4.0.1 works perfectly on a *wireless* (it's WiMax, not WiFi) > connection but not so good on a wired network. Sorry to answer so late. To workaround this problem you have to check off some codecs; this will reduce the packet size so that it could enter the wired network too (limited to about 1400 bytes). -- Eugen From quindennis at gmail.com Wed Jan 29 22:56:17 2014 From: quindennis at gmail.com (Quin Dennis) Date: Wed, 29 Jan 2014 16:56:17 -0600 Subject: [Ekiga-list] Pauses in Phone #s Message-ID: <52E98711.4030507@gmail.com> Does Ekiga support pauses, as in 555-555-5555,,,,1234 ? -- Quin Dennis - (512) 392-8619 From aim at aptech.co.za Thu Jan 30 06:01:05 2014 From: aim at aptech.co.za (Tony Moody) Date: Thu, 30 Jan 2014 08:01:05 +0200 Subject: [Ekiga-list] Configuration disappeared In-Reply-To: <52E758D2.6010705@pu-pm.univ-fcomte.fr> References: <52E25B48.5760.1A49B89@aim.aptech.co.za>, <52E6FDEF.8882.471E4C@aim.aptech.co.za>, <52E758D2.6010705@pu-pm.univ-fcomte.fr> Message-ID: <52E9EAA1.32125.36366B@aim.aptech.co.za> On 28 Jan 2014 at 8:14, Eugen Dedu wrote about : Subject : Re: [Ekiga-list] Configuration disa Date sent: Tue, 28 Jan 2014 08:14:26 +0100 From: Eugen Dedu To: aim at aptech.co.za, Ekiga mailing list Subject: Re: [Ekiga-list] Configuration disappeared > On 28/01/14 01:46, Tony Moody wrote: > > On 24 Jan 2014 at 14:17, Eugen Dedu wrote about : > > Subject : Re: [Ekiga-list] Configuration disa > > > > Date sent: Fri, 24 Jan 2014 14:17:25 +0100 > > From: Eugen Dedu > > To: aim at aptech.co.za, Ekiga mailing list > > Subject: Re: [Ekiga-list] Configuration > > disappeared > > > >> On 24/01/14 13:23, Tony Moody wrote: > >>> Hi Folks, > >>> > >>> Configuration details have been deleted by something.
