I'm using Ekiga 3.2.7, and followed these instructions: http://wiki.ekiga.org/index.php/Ekiga_behind_a_NAT_router#I_use_Ekiga_exclusively_inside_my_LAN.2C_how_can_I_disable_STUN.3F But even when I enabled "disable network detection", I still got the packets sent to the firewall. Now I removed the two contacts that Ekiga creates by default (echo and conference room) and those packets are gone. It may be obvious to you all, but to a newbie in IP phones like me that should be stated in the wiki. Thanks again! Packages don't just not install in that manner. They may have missing dependencies and that kind of thing, but those are only corrected by a corrected package - not by reinstalling. You can check the integrity of the packages at the command line with "rpm -V opal ptlib". No news is good news (no output unless there are errors). You can check the integrity of all installed packages with "rpm -Va" (takes a long time). Off the top of my head, things I've seen happen to cause your problem: 1) playing around as root and accidentally truncate random files 2) start a long update, get bored, and shutdown the machine in the middle of the install (in the middle of the downloads is OK). 3) start an install and power goes out 4) disk errors (use System Tools/Disk Utility to check status and tell SMART to scan for bad sectors). Sorry for the late reply, but I had to wait till I got my new notebook, so I can test alone. I have one machine, where 500 at ekiga.net works, but it doesn't work with my notebook and the new modem, so I think this has to be solved first. I am pretty sure, it is a configuration problem of the firewall of the modem. With the notebook I allowed with my Opensuse 11.3-system: + Secure Shell-Server + TCP-Ports:1720 + UDP-Ports: 3478-3479, 5000-5059, 5061-5100, 8000-8010 5060 is reserved for VoIP of my ISP But I think this is useless, if a Wifi-connection is used. I use networkmanager-gnome. I am very unsure howto setup the modem. It looks like there are 2 possibilites to allow the needed ports as described at http://wiki.ekiga.org/index.php/Enable_port_forwarding_manually Please tell me which of the 2 setups I should use: http://pinguin.uni.cc/huawei_ekiga_ports.png I entered predefinded values there to show an example, what the modem would use by default. I know, that ekiga wants other ports. What should I enter at "Trigger port / Trigger protocol" At open port / protocol I think I have to define 2 rules, one for udp and one for tcp Another possibility for portforwarding could be this form: http://pinguin.uni.cc/huawei_virtual_server.png It looks like, that it is not possible to use IP-blocks with this form, because I couldn't enter "-" > I know that using Ekiga in the same house (behind the same router) > through ekiga.net does not work, except using Neighbours part of the > roster. Please wait until I find out the problem. That would be nice, if you findout why it doesn't work in the same network. Because of this reason I bought a mifi-router to have different networks, one xdsl and one mobile. Well, I am not SIP expert, but it seems to me that 403 Forbidden is sent by server when something is wrong, see page 186 of http://www.ietf.org/rfc/rfc3261.txt. Why the server answers like this I do not know. Maybe you need to disable or enable Disable/Enable Network Detection in Preferences? Maybe you need to look at the INVITE request too, to see if there is not something wrong with it. -- Eugen Dedu http://eugen.dedu.free.fr From Eugen.Dedu at pu-pm.univ-fcomte.fr Mon Feb 7 19:50:31 2011 From: Eugen.Dedu at pu-pm.univ-fcomte.fr (Eugen Dedu) Date: Mon, 07 Feb 2011 20:50:31 +0100 Subject: [Ekiga-list] commercial use of Ekiga softphone In-Reply-To: <4DCCC0E9E37C0149925FC4234FB721052ACE21C5@DC1.innergo.corp> References: <4DCCC0E9E37C0149925FC4234FB721052ACE21C5@DC1.innergo.corp> Message-ID: <4D504D07.9000802@pu-pm.univ-fcomte.fr> On 01/02/11 12:38, Robert Majkowski wrote: > Hello Ekiga, > > I would like to use Ekiga softphone for commercial use, so I have a few question about possibility to use it, about possible support, maybe also about specific development of new features requested by customer. > > I there anybody who can help me, or even is able to answer my question? It depends on who are you calling and what is your setup. Do you have a bluesip.de account configured? Are you using an outbound proxy (doesn't seem so - no Route headers)? Is the number you are trying to call a PSTN number or a SIP address? Did the server asked to authenticate before giving that 403 (given the CSeq value of 1 I guess no)? 403 Forbidden is usually returned when the call fails to meet security restrictions on the other end (hence "security check failed" in the GUI), eg, you are trying to call a PSTN number but your account doesn't allow PC to phone calls. Also, many test numbers (echo test etc) are usually restricted to the customers of the SIP provider in question, regardless of whether it's free VoIP only, or offers PC to phone calls. "No relaying" instead of the usual "Forbidden" in the response kind-of implies that the server giving you the 403 thinks that you are trying to use it as a relay, that is, the callee is outside of it's administrative domain. This is forbidden by some SIP providers. One thing of notice in the above log snippet is that there is an IP address in the From: address. Some SIP providers use the From: address in addition to authentication for access checks. Which is a bit silly as From is not required to contain a SIP address at all and is trivial to fake. In your case, it could be that the proxy expects from to contain something like sip:jan at bluesip.de as the From address, that is, for you to have a bluesip.de account. So, in short, there are many options of what's the problem. If you're just trying to call someone who has a bluesip.de account, I suggest you to ask that person to complain to bluesip.de that he/she is not reachable for users using other SIP providers. Heck, it should work with no provider at all. There's nothing inside Opal that prevent you from using any resolution or aspect ratio. It's a matter of choosing the correct codecs - not all codecs support all resolutions or aspect rations. Hi All,

Has anyone been able to figure out how to make Ekiga work with the m0n0Wall firewall/routing software ?

I've searched the 'net, and m0n0's FAQ's and Forum for an answer, even posted a new topic, but so far nobody has been able to help, so I figured I try here.

Any help will be most appreciated !

Ok, I'll need a bit of help here. Ekiga's code is extensive, I need to
change the user-agent.

Using wireshark I noticed the user agent user is:

Ekiga/[version]

which is not so easy to find with grep or other search tool.

Could somebody point me the right direction?

I have just configured Softphone Ekiga 3.2.7 with Ubuntu 10.10, and I
get always the same error message: "Could not register sip:XXX".

My debug output with -d 4 reads:

In -d 4 output, you have to look at the REGISTER packet sent and
subsequent responses to understand why you cannot register.

Try if http://wiki.ekiga.org/index.php/Ekiga_behind_a_NAT_router can help.

Start ekiga like this:
gdb --args ekiga -d 4 2>&1|tee output
and when the first problem appears, stop ekiga
and when the 2nd problem appears, type ctrl-c and thread apply all bt

In both cases, send us the debug output.

See the wiki for more information about debugging if needed.

Yes, but you need to give us the whole file. Use gzip to compress it.

Thank you, Miguel.

Subject: [Ekiga-list] Ekiga online contacts not showing up on contact list
Message-ID: <4D5F355B.5080201@gmail.com>

Hello Everyone,

A friend of mine and I noticed this problem tonight and it's quite
bothersome. He had been logged into Ekiga for about an hour when I
logged in. He didn't immediately show up as online in my contact list
and didn't actually show up for about 5-7 minutes. Then, I logged out
and logged back in and the same thing happened.

Can anyone tell me how to get around this lag?

Thanks!
Anthny

Hello,

I have a error message with ekiga 3.2.7 (with maverick) : "impossible de
se s'inscrire (?chec)."

I use a router which is, maybe, the problem. I tried to open some ports in
my router but the error persists.

Here is a screenshot of my DSL router configuration for ekiga (which don't
work).

Hi,

Just a heads up that I'll be updating the user manual section of the Wiki over the next few days, tidying up some of the wording and trying to fill in references to missing content. If you notice anything amiss just let me know.

Cheers,
Dave?

Subject: [Ekiga-list] Another problem (communicating with contacts)
Message-ID: <4D5F3B92.40109@adcl.us>

Hello again everyone,

I have ANOTHER problem...

My Ekiga name is cajuntechie. A friend added me to his contact list. In
the 'name' field, he put 'Anthony' and in the SIP field he put my full
SIP address (cajuntechie at ekiga.net). It added me to his contact list.
Next, he tried to send me a text message and it said "NOTICE: could not
send message". He can NEVER send me a message using my entry on his
contact list. If I send him a message, it will open up another tab in
his chat window showing my SIP address and we can communicate from there.

What the heck is going on? Can anyone offer some advice?

Thanks!
Anthony

hi,

i have checked ekiga with debug on, but there's no difference in the
processing of the firs and the second and subsequent MESSAGE request.

ekiga is acknowledging all the requests with 200 OK response but as i
told earlier it doesn't display the text in the MESSAGE requests
received after the first MESSAGE.

PFA the debug log file.

thanks in advance

Subject: [Ekiga-list] Ekiga + m0noWall router -- lessons learned and
 proposed doc update
Message-ID:

Hi,

First, Thank You Eugen for the help.?? I am sharing what I learned in the hope that it may save some others a little trouble.? My problems installing Ekiga had two separate issues, the Ekiga.net side, and the PC-to-Phone side.... and to that what I think were misleading errors.

I use m0n0wall for my router/firewall, and Fedora 14 with the latest release of Ekiga.

Upon starting Ekiga the first time I received the error:
"Ekiga did not manage to configure your network settings automatically... enable-port_forwarding_manually"
However PC-to_Phone worked fine without any firewall configuration (sip.diamondcard.us). Not so for the SIP part, I had to port forward the ports indicated in the Ekiga section of Gnome's Configuration Editor.? I now can call with both accounts.

I still have one problem with my webcam, Logitech Quickcam 9000 Pro -- UVC Camera (046d:0990) (PTLIB/V4L2)? (320x240), Auto Format, Channel 0, with Theora and h261 codecs enabled.? It works fine the first time I use it after a reboot and as long as I do not use the Ekiga.net account.? Once I try, for example 500 at ekiga.net, the video stops, and am not able to make it work, even using the pc-to-phone, or exiting ekiga completely and re-starting it.? I have to reboot my machine.? The error I get is:
"your driver does not seem to support any of the color formats supported by Ekiga. Please check your kernel driver documentation..."? but it works fine after a fresh reboot, and as long as I only make calls with sip.diamondcard.us account.

Anyway, hope this helps others with m0n0wall.

Cheers,

-N

Subject: [Ekiga-list] H225RAS	Write PDU failed (0): No such file or directory
Message-ID: <09BB75CED4B64D408673697AFCF670220327CB9D@VA3DIAXVS741.RED001.local>

I have a user who is trying to call one of our conference rooms but is getting:

H225RAS Write PDU failed (0): No such file or directory

He says his firewall is configured properly. That message seems to appear twice during each attempt to call the conference room. After the first appearance, the next line is:

H225 Caller:0x32b07700 RAS Endpoint has become unregistered during ARQ from gatekeeper

And after the second appearance, the next line are:

RAS Failed registration of with
H225 Gatekeeper refused admission: <850417984>

Where/what is the PDU trying to write to? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Ryan
