I don't think it's that weird that the NSIS process would detect that the user does not have any rights under XP and thus propose a D&S/username/Ekiga install dir. I even think that the firefox installer do this to. So IMO it's not a bug to correct. The main bug is that the uninstaller remove D&S/username whole folder which means the regedit uninstall key is not correctly read. -- <-------------------------------------------------------> web perso : http://memeteau.com Boutique Ordinateurs GNU/Linux : http://shop.ekimia.fr Fixe : 0974763294 Mobile : 0624808051 Visio/jabber/GTalk : xmpp:freechelmi at jabber.fr -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Here is the progress so far: - as shown at http://www.flickr.com/photos/34403391 at N07/4356542596/, the installer did not install ekiga in a new directory (look at ekiga, help, locale, icons directories, which belong to ekiga), but directly in MyDocuments, where other files reside - I think that yesterday everything was ok for me anyway, since it proposed a new directory (ending in Ekiga) - the NSIS script in ekiga uses during uninstall (cf. http://git.gnome.org/browse/ekiga/tree/win32/nsisinstaller/ekiga.nsi?h=gnome-2-26): Delete /REBOOTOK "$INSTDIR\*.*" RMDir /r /REBOOTOK "$INSTDIR" which of course removes the whole installation directory (by the way, aren't both these commands identical??) This is unsafe anyway, as shown at the end of the section http://nsis.sourceforge.net/Docs/Chapter4.html#4.9.1.8 I try to understand now: - why the installer have not proposed a new directory (ending in \Ekiga). The installer proposed to install in C:\D&S\ededu\Ekiga. If I click on Browse..., then the new dialog is as shown at http://eugen.dedu.free.fr/inst3.png. If I wrongly click on Ok instead of Cancel, then the installation directory changes to C:\D&S\ededu\MyDocs. I continue the installation. Upon uninstallation, as shown above, nsis code in ekiga removes the installation directory completely, so everything in C:\D&S\ededu/MyDocs. Now, I have the solution and a question. The solution is to remove the files one by one, as it is done in pidgin (http://developer.pidgin.im/viewmtn/revision/file/2024012eee484e1d27fff17f648e83e13dd0fd5d/pidgin/win32/nsis/pidgin-installer.nsi, search for CAcert and look at all the following lines). Or better but more complicated, save all the installed files in a log and remove them upon uninstallation (http://nsis.sourceforge.net/Uninstall_only_installed_files). And the question is: is it normal that Browse... show the attached window instead of going to the proposed installation directory (well, Ekiga subdir in the installation directory does not exist)?? Finally, the installation directory has GTK... as title. Does this mean that it is the gtk code which does this, and not ekiga nsis code? -- Eugen From julian at juliankranz.de Fri May 7 17:20:26 2010 From: julian at juliankranz.de (Julian Kranz) Date: Fri, 07 May 2010 19:20:26 +0200 Subject: [Ekiga-list] Bug in Ekiga In-Reply-To: <1272621503.1699.5.camel@comp002-adk> References: <1272147349.11194.10.camel@comp002-adk> <1272156177.14552.2.camel@comp002-adk> <4BD4A15B.4090302@pu-pm.univ-fcomte.fr> <1272621503.1699.5.camel@comp002-adk> Message-ID: <1273252826.9966.2.camel@comp002-adk> Hello, did you forget me? :-( -------------- next part -------------- A non-text attachment was scrubbed... Does this mean > that it is the gtk code which does this, and not ekiga nsis code? I have finally fixed this bug: http://git.gnome.org/browse/ekiga/commit/?h=gnome-2-26&id=2d1d493c126d76c0709051fb3104d6f261c0acb4 > If I had not interrupted the uninstall, what would have happened when > the uninstaller emptied the My Documents directory? Would it then > have started deleting files a level higher in the directory > hierarchy, and continued until it erased the entire hard drive? For info: Until now, the uninstaller removed the whole installation directory, and in your case Ekiga was installed in MyDocs. It did not jumped to upper directory. The simplest solution I found is that if the installation directory is not empty (such as MyDocs), then it is installed into an empty sub-directory. Thus, even when the uninstall removes the whole sub-directory, there is no problem. -- Eugen From dford at ansur.demon.co.uk Sat May 8 12:28:47 2010 From: dford at ansur.demon.co.uk (David Ford) Date: Sat, 08 May 2010 13:28:47 +0100 Subject: [Ekiga-list] destructive Ekiga Win-XP un-install [FIXED] In-Reply-To: <4BE5552F.7010203@pu-pm.univ-fcomte.fr> References: <1266077228.2750.22.camel@ubuntu.ubuntu-domain> <1266081546.2873.0.camel@scorpion.multitel.be> <4BE1A44B.2060601@pu-pm.univ-fcomte.fr> <4BE259A7.6060309@pu-pm.univ-fcomte.fr> <4BE2AFFE.1010600@pu-pm.univ-fcomte.fr> <4BE5552F.7010203@pu-pm.univ-fcomte.fr> Message-ID: <4BE558FF.4080603@ansur.demon.co.uk> Hi Eugen On 08/05/10 13:12, Eugen Dedu wrote: > On 06/05/10 14:03, Eugen Dedu wrote: >> On 06/05/10 07:54, Eugen Dedu wrote: >>> On 05/05/10 20:53, michel memeteau wrote: >>>> 2010/5/5 Eugen Dedu >>>> >>>>> On 14/02/10 14:57, michel memeteau wrote: >>>>> >>>>>> if for some reason the installer decide that MyDocs is the default >>>>>> install >>>>>> dir instead of progfiles/ekiga , it will install there and >>>>>> uninstaller >>>>>> will >>>>>> erase the INSTALDIR content and thus mydocs. >>>>>> I guess it can have something to do with user rights as if >>>>>> progfiles is >>>>>> not >>>>>> writable, i might try Mydocs. Echo test is just an echo test, it has not good quality. It just allow to see that ekiga works on your machine. The quality depends on audio and video codecs used, on your network connection and on ekiga code. About using CPU a lot, this is a known issue, we need help to investigate it... > Is the better sound quality from skype due to compression, or a > proprietary protocol? You are right, there is a bug: "If I am called while I am in communication, even after stopping the communication I send Busy Here when I am called again by the same person (maybe other person too?)" I know. We plan to release Ekiga 3.2.7 soon. My plan for the website is to fix everything at the time we will announce it. For now the windows version is a *pre-release*; as it fix the very bad bug which could erase user personal datas, it is good enough to be public now. I do think the less you give the *masses* updates, the more valuable it is to them. It is quite diff?rent for people having special interest on our project; for them the more updates, the better. I do use channel of communication with feedback, like bug reports, the mailing list, forums etc. and provide them repositories with updated clients in a pre-release state. This is my personal strategy. As I also am the one dealing with the website, I find useful to discuss it publicly here. And I just tried to express it now. I was just doing it before. In-Reply-To: <1274382711.4589.3.camel@localhost> References: <1274382711.4589.3.camel@localhost> Message-ID: <4BF5992D.4070006@web.de> Luigi, If you aer truly registered successfully on :xxx.yyy.zzz.ttt server, then the issue is probably NAT/Firewall. Once you're registered, the SIP server knows your router's public IP. Any calls to you are sent to this IP, but the router says "I don't know port 5060", and drops the frame. If your router is SIP-aware, or has a SIP ALG, then outbound calls from your PC work. You need to either configure your router FW to allow 5060 from public to private, and the NAT to forward all 5060 frames to the chosen PC on your private network where ekiga is running. so - if SIP gateway sends a call to your router's public IP, the router will say "5060" - send it to 192.168.1.x/24 - your pc where ekiga is running, and you receive the call. you could use asterisk, but same problem applies - the asterisk PBX runs on your private network behind the router, the router NAT/FW will still drop calls coming inbound from the Internet. A STUN server may help, recommend using the ekiga "config druid" which tries to figure out the best method and configures itself accordingly. Your sip provider might have a STUN server available. Older ekiga versions one could configure this via the graphical, with current versions, one has to edit the gconf files. The question is whether the IP phone can make a call to an arbitrary phone. If it can, just dial the IP of the box running Ekiga. Otherwise you'll need a PBX or some kind of SIP proxy (like OpenSER or variants of it) and have both Ekiga and IP phone registered to the proxy/PBX. Then you can call Ekiga by dialling the extension number assigned to Ekiga. -- Ian From nigel at apxpress.com.tn Fri May 21 09:17:02 2010 From: nigel at apxpress.com.tn (Nigel Brown) Date: Fri, 21 May 2010 10:17:02 +0100 Subject: [Ekiga-list] Ekiga 3.2.7 Windows XP In-Reply-To: <4BF5BC03.2000100@pu-pm.univ-fcomte.fr> References: <7BA28BD06663424CA3C4E56C3DA835BA@tunisia.apxpress.com> <4BF5BC03.2000100@pu-pm.univ-fcomte.fr> Message-ID: Dear All, I understand even after gzip the dump file it may be too big (46K plus size of email 76k. This has nothing to do with your router, in this case, the router is just a switch. presuming your pc can ping the phone successfully. i suspect the hardphone needs to register with a server, I've never seen one that can directly make SIP calls. a sniffer trace (wireshark for example) or tcpdump from the pc might be interesting, just to see what the phone sends, if anything. if both are registered with a signaling server, and the router is SIP aware, then the 2 should be able to call each other. I already have an Ekiga.net account. I want to call someone who has a sip2sip.info address. I can successfully register my ekiga.net account with Ekiga. Moreover, i can successfully make test calls and call people with ekiga.net addresses. I can't seem to call sip2sip.info addresses, however. Aaron W. I'm new to these things about routers and ports so I made a drawing of my network: http://download.tuxfamily.org/introsmedia/temporal/lan.png NUTABE and NUTABE-2 are the names of the computers I have in my network. I'm using Ekiga in NUTABE, and when I run it I get the error message that says that it couldn't register my sip address. This is because gconf has a cache. Thanks, in fact it seems to improve things: - Ekiga can now register at ekiga.net - when I call 520 at ekiga.net, I get the call back, receive it, hear the message, hear myself, the only thing that's missing is remote video (it shows local video, as I can verify by plugging out the ethernet: audio goes away, video is still updated; also the "View" menu doesn't un-grey the remote video entry) - when I call 500 at ekiga.net, audio is silent; but after ~20 seconds, as normally expected the video switches to remote video (still no audio) So, NAT works except NAT still doesn't work or something like that (but I don't know for sure if the above brokenness is really due to the NAT, but what else should it be?). NAT is being done by a linux box (with nf_nat_sip kernel module loaded). (Sound is OSS, with an .asoundrc to make alsa use oss as back end; it is a mess: ring tone requires .asoundrc, but voice audio in and out go directly to OSS, but only thanks to me setting .gconf dir entries manually to entries from older Ekiga versions: the "Detect devices" button in the sound prefs never finds anything. But with this sound seems to be working reliably, so the above problems must be something else like networking issues.) Christian. If I disable h261, video disappears completely (and audio is still silent), if I disable Theora and enable h261 there's no change to the previous behaviour. Yannik has pointed me to http://wiki.ekiga.org/index.php/Audio_setup#OSS_4.x, so the behaviour regarding OSS4 has actually been documented and works as shown on that page. > For the mess: is it sound, or ekiga? (Well, removing audio codecs won't revive audio will it?) Also, I've checked with tcpdump now and no packages are close to the MTU:1492 limit of the router's (ADSL) ppp0 interface. Also, I've now moved the laptop directly to the ADSL modem, using the same settings as in the previously used router (which runs the same OS&version, Debian lenny), thus the same MTU 1492 setting, and with that the sound is back for 500 at ekiga.net. Our IT Technicians will not assist further, they have opened the ports to my machine 192.168.10.27. SIP communication is not high on their list of priorities, they are willing to let me use Skype but here in Tunisia that?s a disaster. I can confirm all ports have been opened. I can confirm I am behind a SYMMETRIC NAT, (so STUN is not relevant?). From what I can see, my pc will send a request to the Ekiga.net or Iptel.org servers (I tried another account) but can not receive the response. I can confirm by looking at the dump, that my pc sends its own private IP address 192.168.10.27, not the public one, from our ISP, 193.95.76.165. I read on a VOLP user forum that the SIP server must send the response back using exactly the same IP address/port combination - could this be the problem? I have a Windows machine and I can call 500 from it, with audio and video. The sound is not good, but I think it is because of the sound card of the machine. Installation, uninstallation, help, localisation, roster and a few other things I have tried work as expected. Two other persons told me it is ok, but they have not done much testing. I am tempted to say it is not beta anymore. No windows-specific bugs are known at the moment. -- Eugen From sevmek at free.fr Mon May 31 19:24:46 2010 From: sevmek at free.fr (yannick) Date: Mon, 31 May 2010 21:24:46 +0200 Subject: [Ekiga-list] [Ekiga-devel-list] ANNOUNCE - Ekiga 3.2.7 [STABLE] available In-Reply-To: References: <4C02E9E2.5070304@pu-pm.univ-fcomte.fr> Message-ID: <1275333886.3936.13.camel@achille> Le lundi 31 mai 2010 ? 18:59 +0100, Peter Robinson a ?crit : > The release is now built for Fedora rawhide as well as 13/12/11 and > will be headed to the relevant Fedora updates-testing repositories > very shortly (likely tomorrow). > I updated our wiki accordingly: http://wiki.ekiga.org/index.php/HowTo_install_Ekiga_packages#Fedora Thank you very much!
