(In human terms, 2.0.3 is a little over a year behind the times.)  I
understand your hesitance to step outside the package management system.
 The Ekiga folks have created an up-to-date .deb so that you can still
stay within the package manager:

Search for "Install the latest version" in the page.

(I haven't done it yet, but that was in an earlier thread.)
