But anyway. Modem Lights is bad crack. What we really want is something that is able to use the g-s-t configuration stuff and just does "connect", "disconnect" and reports the current status. I've got code that does the latter, but not the former - working out a sensible way of dealing with the former that will let me work as a user as well would be helpful. > Dedicated tools are a bad solution, as there is then difficulty if I > want to dial out and am not in GNOME. Really? Has this changed? Maybe I'm just confused by what g-s-t did. Hang on, let me check the source... Hmm, as far as I can tell it still seems to configure wvdial, which isn't what pon uses. Uh, no, maybe it does. No, I don't understand this code at all :) What does g-s-t do for different distributions, and what's the Right Way for another application to get the list of configured ISPs from it? -- Matthew Garrett | mjg59@srcf.ucam.org _______________________________________________ setup-tool-hackers maillist - setup-tool-hackers@lists.ximian.com http://lists.ximian.com/mailman/listinfo/setup-tool-hackers From setup-tool-hackers-admin@lists.ximian.com Sat Jan 3 05:34:54 2004 Received: from bzzzt.fix.no ([212.71.72.20] helo=unity.copyleft.no) by bzzzt.fix.no with esmtp (Exim 3.33 #1) id 1AcdV0-000INK-00 for hpj@bzzzt.fix.no; Sat, 03 Jan 2004 05:34:54 +0100 Received: from [130.57.169.16] (helo=skeptopotamus.ximian.com) by unity.copyleft.no with esmtp (Exim 3.36 #1) id 1AcdUz-000INF-00 for hpj@copyleft.no; Sat, 03 Jan 2004 05:34:54 +0100 Received: by skeptopotamus.ximian.com (Postfix) id 62C6B630CD; Fri, 2 Jan 2004 23:34:49 -0500 (EST) Delivered-To: hpj@ximian.com Received: from lists.ximian.com (unknown [130.57.169.17]) by skeptopotamus.ximian.com (Postfix) with ESMTP id 53EF363090; Fri, 2 Jan 2004 23:34:49 -0500 (EST) Received: from headcheese (localhost [127.0.0.1]) by lists.ximian.com (Postfix) with ESMTP id EE329124446; Fri, 2 Jan 2004 23:34:48 -0500 (EST) Received: by lists.ximian.com (Postfix, from userid 38) id 98CE812444D; Fri, 2 Jan 2004 23:30:38 -0500 (EST) Received: from tom.com (unknown [211.161.24.170]) by lists.ximian.com (Postfix) with ESMTP id C6EBF1242D2 for <setup-tool-hackers@lists.ximian.com>; Fri, 2 Jan 2004 23:30:07 -0500 (EST) From: =?GB2312?B?uuPL2bTv?= <dns88@tom.com> To: setup-tool-hackers@lists.ximian.com Content-Type: text/plain;charset="GB2312" Reply-To: ºãËÙ´ï@listsmx.ximian.com X-Priority: 3 X-Mailer: FoxMail 3.11 Release [cn] Message-Id: <20040103043007.C6EBF1242D2@lists.ximian.com> X-Spam-Status: No, hits=4.9 required=5.0 tests=FROM_ENDS_IN_NUMS,HEADER_8BITS,MAILTO_TO_SPAM_ADDR, RAZOR2_CHECK,RCVD_IN_SBL version=2.53 X-Spam-Level: **** X-Spam-Checker-Version: SpamAssassin 2.53 (1.174.2.15-2003-03-30-exp) Subject: [Setup-tool-hackers] =?GB2312?B?wM/F89PR1Nq0y7j4xPqw3cTqo6E=?= Sender: setup-tool-hackers-admin@lists.ximian.com Errors-To: setup-tool-hackers-admin@lists.ximian.com X-BeenThere: setup-tool-hackers@lists.ximian.com X-Mailman-Version: 2.0.13 Precedence: bulk List-Help: <mailto:setup-tool-hackers-request@lists.ximian.com?subject=help> List-Post: <mailto:setup-tool-hackers@lists.ximian.com> List-Subscribe: <http://lists.ximian.com/mailman/listinfo/setup-tool-hackers>, <mailto:setup-tool-hackers-request@lists.ximian.com?subject=subscribe> List-Id: <setup-tool-hackers.lists.ximian.com> List-Unsubscribe: <http://lists.ximian.com/mailman/listinfo/setup-tool-hackers>, <mailto:setup-tool-hackers-request@lists.ximian.com?subject=unsubscribe> List-Archive: <http://lists.ximian.com/archives/public/setup-tool-hackers/> Date: Sat, 3 Jan 2004 12:30:10 +0800 X-Bogosity-Centralized: No, tests=bogofilter, spamicity=0.515507, version=0.15.7 X-Evolution-Source: imap://hpj@bzzzt.fix.no/ X-Evolution: 0000007c-0100 Mime-Version: 1.0 ×ð¾´µÄÀϿͻ§£º ¡¡¡¡ÄúºÃ£¡ ¡¡¡¡Ëê佫ÖÁ£¬ÌØÔڴ˸øÄú°Ý¸öÔçÄ꣬ףÄúÐÂÄê¿ìÀÖ¡¢ºÏ¼ÒÍÅÔ²¡¢ÍòÊÂÈçÒ⣡ ¡¡¡¡ ¡¡¡¡ºãËÙ´ïÄÜÓнñÌìÀë²»¿ªÄúµÄÖ§³ÖÓëºñ°®£¬Îª»Ø±¨ÀϿͻ§ÎÒÃÇÓë¡¡DELLµçÄÔºÏ×÷£¬Ñ¡Óö¥ ¼¶Æ·ÅÆ·þÎñÆ÷£¬Ìرð·îËÍ£¡ ´Ó2003Äê01ÔÂ01ÈÕ---2004Äê2ÔÂ1ÈÕÔÚÎÒ˾ÉêÇëDELL·þÎñÆ÷¿Õ¼äµÄÓÅ»ÝÈçÏ£º A¡¢400M¿Õ¼ä£¨200M¡¡WEB£¬Ö§³ÖASP¡¢CGI¡¢ACCESS¡¢ÂÛ̳£© + ËÍ1¸ö100M¡¡MAIL¡¡ÌؼÛ150Ôª£» B¡¢600M¿Õ¼ä£¨300M¡¡WEB£¬Ö§³ÖASP¡¢CGI¡¢ACCESS¡¢ÂÛ̳£© + ËÍ1¸ö100M¡¡MAIL¡¡ÌؼÛ200Ôª£» C¡¢800M¿Õ¼ä£¨400M¡¡WEB£¬Ö§³ÖASP¡¢CGI¡¢ACCESS¡¢ÂÛ̳£© + ËÍ1¸ö100M¡¡MAIL¡¡ÌؼÛ300Ôª£» Ìؼۿռä¼Ó¡¡60ÔªË͹ú¼Ê¶¥¼¶ÓòÃû¼Ó£¬¼Ó¡¡200ÔªË͹úÄÚÓòÃû£»ÁíÍøÕ¾Íƹã´ò¡¡8.5ÕÛÓŻݡ£ ¡¡¡¡³ÏÐÅΪ±¾£¬ÎÒÃdzÐŵ¡¡24СʱΪÄú·þÎñ£¬Í¬Ê±Ö§³ÖQQ24СʱÔÚÏß×Éѯ£¡ ¡¡¡¡Í¬Ê±Ò²»¶ÓÄú¼ÓÈëÎÒÃÇ´úÀíÉÌÐÐÁÐÀ´£¬ÎÒÃǽ«¸øÄú¸ü¼ÓÓŻݵķþÎñ£¡ 24СʱÈÈÏߣº0592-- 8667174 / 8919334 / 8375020¡¡/¡¡8345012 ¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡´«Õ棺0592--6026652 ¡¡¡¡ Óʼþ£º dns88@tom.com QQÔÚÏߣº 40327558 / 33925614 ×£ÄúºÃÔËÌìÌìÓС¢ÐÒÔ˳£°éËæ¡¢ºïÄêÍòÊÂÈçÒâ! Modemlight or pon do not seem to work for me straight away and I put it down to wvdial being already configured. (Too sleepy to look at what files were setup and being read by what app... ) this is surely one aspect Gnome desktop could do with more clarity as there are lots of users on dialup connections. But anyway. I must be going mad, I swear I used g-s-t to look at my PPP configuration in the past. You're right, on Debian it still demands wvdial, which is not good. The Debian backend for the networking tools should use the /etc/ppp/* configuration files. > Modem Lights is bad crack. Agree, it would be great if modem lights used the same backend code as g-s-t to list the available connections, and allowed you to pick what PPP connection to dial when you press the button. PPP support was done in this way before I joined the project, I think that this was done to minimize the effort of porting this part to other distros (the more common is something, the better), but I agree that this should be distro-specific > > > Modem Lights is bad crack. The GNOME System Tools are a set of cross-platform configuration utilities for Linux and other Unix systems. Internally they are divided in frontends and backends. The frontend knows nothing about the underlying system and provides the same user interface across the different types of systems. The backend knows how to read and write the configuration information. The GNOME System Tools do not impose a new database on the system: they work with the default configuration files so that configuration can still be done by hand or by other tools. Keep Your Job - Keep Your Marriage - Keep Out Of Trouble

DID YOU KNOW!

That anyone who uses your computer can see what websites you've visited?
And that simply deleting history only removes part of the records.
If someone starts typing a web site, your browser will recall old sites you've visited?
Your boss or wife can start typing "www.dateline.com" and the browser will recall "www.datingclub.com"
Every picture on every site you've ever visited has been copied to your hard drive?
Deleting the cache does not permanently remove them!

To add a dependency, I need to modify configure.in, but even with configure.in unmodified, I can't successfully run autoconf, it complains something about ")].in". What version of automake/autoconf should I be using? My second question is, how do people feel about dependencies? I'm thinkin of adding a network profile selector to the Panel. That requires libpanel-applet >=2.0. Is it okay to add a dependecy like this, or should the panel applet be developed as a separate package? Then I would only need to add some command line options to network-admin, that apply a specific network profile.
