My name is Anmar Oueja. I am excited about the prospects of geary. ?I think it is going to fill in a need because, lets face it, Linux e-mail clients leave a lot to be desired. I am interested in helping with this project because I have a personal interest in this subject and a fundamental belief that in order for Linux to succeed on the desktop, it must have a solid set of applications. ?People use the applications not the OS. I am not a developer but not shy to learn and would like to help out in any way I can. I am not stranger to Linux as I have been professionally involved in Linux projects for more than 12 years. Currently, I work for www.linaro.org, which is a non profit organization dedicated to furthering Linux on the ARM architecture. Here are some future ideas that might be of interest. - Gmail hot keys is a big plus.I would even go further and propose that the entire interface be accessible through hot keys. - Reaction speed. Have the interface react really fast to actions. Ideally, I would like to fly through e-mail like I can in mutt or wanderlust. - I am sure you know about this but I will mention it any way. Sparrow mail (http://sparrowmailapp.com/) is a good model to learn a few good ideas from - Integration into gnome-contacts is a big plus. I see there are plans to do that - Good bindings for editing text using simple ASCII and not rely solely on HTML. I can provide numerous ideas to help making editing ext easier. - Coloured quote levels - reminders. This is a big feature I wished an e-mail client would support. It provides a way for the end user to postpone responding to an e-mail until another time. Basically hide the e-mail and pop it up again in 1, 2, 5 or more days. This an advanced feature that is targeted at 2.0 release I don't want to just create work for you guys :-)... I am also willing to aid so any direction as to where I can help out, is much appreciated. Welcome, Anmar, and thanks for your interest in Geary. We started Geary because we are also unsatisfied with existing email clients for the Linux desktop. > > I am interested in helping with this project because I have a personal > interest in this subject and a fundamental belief that in order for > Linux to succeed on the desktop, it must have a solid set of > applications. Jim (the Geary technical lead) and I were at the last Ubuntu Desktop Summit (in Orlando) which was also a Linaro event, so we learned a bit about Linaro there. > > Here are some future ideas that might be of interest. > > - Gmail hot keys is a big plus.I would even go further and propose > that the entire interface be accessible through hot keys. We should devote significant effort to making Geary blazingly fast. > - I am sure you know about this but I will mention it any way. > Sparrow mail (http://sparrowmailapp.com/) is a good model to learn a > few good ideas from Yes - we've looked at Sparrow a bit already and should probably study it more. > - Integration into gnome-contacts is a big plus. At the moment, Geary is not usable as your everyday email client, but we hope to get there within the next couple of months. In the meantime, you could build and test the development sources (see http://redmine.yorba.org/projects/geary/wiki), and if you find any bugs we haven't noticed already then we'd be happy to hear about them in our bug tracker (http://redmine.yorba.org/projects/geary/issues).
