There is a plugin in the works, and if you're feeling adventurous you could try to download the patch at the bottom of http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=76522, apply it to the Rhythmbox source code, and compile it yourself.  I'm pretty new to this list so perhaps someone else has a better idea of what the "official" plans are with regards to an equalizer.

By the way, am I the only one who didn't get any emails from this list for the past week until today?
