[orca-list] speech-dispatcher doesn't talk

Hi all
After upgrading ubuntu to intrepid, I wanted to install 
speech-dispatcher again. I did ecactly what's described in the 
hardy-article in the wiki on the gnome-web page.
But it when I type: spd-say something nothing happens. I don't get an 
error message either.
I tried to switch to spd via the orca-menu anyway, but got silence as well.
What's wrong?
