Willie,

I followed the instructions on the gnomelive page, except for the fact that I used sun jdk 1.5.0_15 because I had already downloaded the rpm.bin file for that, and JDeveloper works best on jdk 1.5 not 1.6.

When I try to access the java console from the system/prefferences menu it still says it is inaccessible.

I will admit I am running an old version of at-spi and atk because they are what ships with enterprise linux.

Java a11y support on AT-SPI is still a little dicey right now, but it
is something we're focusing on for GNOME 2.24.  If you still want to
experiment, though, there's more information on the Java Access Bridge
for GNOME here: http://live.gnome.org/Orca/JABG
