Hello Wil,
Yes, indeed I get after "echo $GTK_MODULES", the result: "gail:atk-bridge".
But still after "sudo synaptic" orca stops talking.

If there isn't an env_reset line, then there shouldn't be a need to have
an env_keep line. :-)
If you do an "echo $GTK_MODULES" in a gnome-terminal, do you get
"gail:atk-bridge" as a result?
