GPL Licensing

I was looking into integrating a network manager frontend control into one of my applications. However I do already link against some GPL incompatible code. Does this mean that I can't do this? I would assume that I couldn't use libnm-glib. However, if I wrote my own LGPL bindings against the dbus-specifications and then linked against that would that be ok?
