I'm afraid my last post came off as insulting. I apologize. I was having a
rough day.

File extensions are not stupid, as they have served us all well for a long
time. I just think that a combination of file sniffing and letting programs
set a mime type in an EA is a better design that is more accurate and easier
on users who aren't programmers.
