timeline widget

Hi,
I'm trying to do a widget timeline.
Acutally i'm making a non linear video editor. I 'm actually working under linux with gstreamer et gtk and i was wondering if you had some advice  or if you simply show me your code.

First i tried to do it with gtkTreeColumView but i think it's a bad idea because cellrenering is limited, isn't it ? Actually i want to draw some   
specific rectangles of colors on cell renderers and managed it with events. I try to make a timeline as similar as adobe premiere.
