gtk nasties?

I've been fooling around with my new gtk app quite a bit, and
today when I pressed a button in a gtkfilesel X froze solid.
I could escape to the console, but even when I killed -9 the gtk
app it remained visible in X and the X session remained frozen
stiff.  The only way out was to kill the X server and start
over.  

Q: Is there any way a bug of my own making, at the level of a
gtk app, could have done this?  Or is it more likely to be a gtk
or XFree bug?  Or just an Act of God?
