We indeed have the same kind of problem, since I must confess that
other than doing a quick port, we havenn't done much testing/fixing.

We use _WIN32 (using MSVC) to handle WIN32 specific parts.

Your fix for the backup file sounds indeed OK. The other problem should
also be easy to fix, probably in the next version of GtkAda if I get a
chance to look at it.
