gtksheet and gtk-win32

This may be a little arcane, but here goes...  Has anyone had
problems destroying a window containing a gtksheet spreadsheet?  
My app uses gtksheet; under Linux I'm not seeing any special
problems but in the win32 port of the program whenever I close a
gtksheet window (using gtk_wiget_destroy() on the toplevel
containing the sheet) I'm seeing a lot of screaming about
"assertion `GTK_IS_WIDGET(widget) failed'".

Is there a "most likely cause" of this sort of problem, or a
recommended way of tracking down its source?
