You can't patch binary distributions of software (well, it is
possible, but it makes no sense), you can only patch the source (ie
the .tar.gz distribution of gtk and glib). If you have the RPMs, you
have pretty much no choice but to download newer RPMs or download the
latest .tar.gz's and compile (doing that will not give you the
dependancies for RPM though and other programs may complain a bit).
