gdk_window_set_back_pixmap

Hi there !
Has anybody succeeded to use "gdk_window_set_back_pixmap" once ?

I've got a main window ... containing a box ... containing a notebook ...
containing .....
When I try to use the function on the main window , I see the pixmap in
background for 1/2 second during everything is building , then, others widgets
"overwrite" it & everything become grey :-(

I thought this function applied on everything inside the window !?

I tried to use glade to get an example, & .... unfortunately glade seems to not
build the C code for that.

Thanks in advance if someone could give me an code example or just a tip .
