Help: no display clist

Someone, HELP!

I am using a clist to display the contents of a directory. As far as I can
tell, the data is being added to the clist correctly, but it is not being
displayed in the widget.

I've tried gtk_clist_append, gtk_clist_set_row_data, and gtk_clist_set_text.
None of them display anything.

All the widget needs to display are the filenames of the regular files in
the directory.
